Officially, “The Bowl welcomes the longed-for return of post-punk messiahs Pavement for an amazing show of rock royalty that also includes the iconic and experimental sounds of Sonic Youth and heirs to the lo-fi throne No Age.” Damn. Heirs to the lo-fi throne? No Age must be pretty stoked. Seriously, and I say this with love, who the fuck cares about No Age when PAVEMENT AND SONIC YOUTH ARE PLAYING TOGETHER? I sure don’t. Um, count me in. And by “count me in” I actually meant to say “Please buy me tickets so I can go cause I Check out more Pavement and Sonic Youth at the Hollywood Bowl…
Last night I discovered that I have three very different and totally awesome versions of The Beatles’ harmonica-pop gem from A Hard Day’s Night – “I Should Have Known Better.” It should go without saying that version 1 is, of course, the original. Version 2 is a great duet, by She & Him, who will be performing at the 2010 Lou Fest on August 29th in St. Louis. M. Ward and Zooey Deschanel alternate vocal lines over a laid-back, galloping beat with Hawaiian-inspired guitar slides. Totally different take on a classic track. My favorite is version 3, by Check out more You should have known better, rude boy!…
I’ve been a little slow on the blog this summer, with good reason – dog, new job, no money, etc – but I figure it’s kind of my duty to kick you guys down with the details for this year’s FYF Fest, since I’ve done it pretty much every year…. The lineup was announced a week or 2 ago and includes some pretty awesome shit that we’ve written about in the past…. For starters, fucking UNBROKEN is on this years FYF lineup. Yeah, and I do mean the Life Love Regret UNBROKEN. What the fuck? My friend had Check out more FYF Fest 2010 Is Just Around The Corner – Lineup, Etc….
That’s right ladies and gentlemen, weapon favorites Belle and Sebastian (who we never write about cause there’s never anything new to say about them) will be in the area for a show at the palladium on October 3rd. STOKED! I’ve seen them three times – once the night before my senior year in high school at the Wiltern with a chamber orchestra (care for a bootleg?), once at Coachella in 2004, and once at the Hollywood Bowl on my birthday with the LA Phil. If you weren’t interested before, click on all those links and you will be Check out more Belle and Sebastian in Hollywood Oct 3rd…
Last week, Rock The Bells 2010 announced the addition of Snoop Dogg, A Tribe Called Quest, and Lauryn Hill just days before tickets were to go on sale. Pretty slick move if you ask me. But it gets better – Snoop Dogg will perform the entirety of his debut album Doggystyle – do you have any idea how much that rules? Tribe will perform Midnight Marauders, and to top it off there will be a very special performance from Lauryn Hill. LAURYN HILL! Right?? The three legends were added to an already star-studded lineup that includes Wu-Tang (PERFORMING Check out more Snoop, Tribe, and Hill Added to Rock The Bells 2010…
Let me just preface by saying it’s late and I’m tired – I do dig the new Melvins track (see below) but haven’t gotten my hands on a copy of the new album so I can’t really say much about it, except for the name is super cheesey and I hate it. C’mon, really? The Bride Screamed Murder? Hopefully the tunes will cancel out the album name. Anyway, dig some words on the subject (my favorite of which is ‘soul-crushing’) that didn’t come from my fingertips:

We like The Dirty Heads cause we think they kinda sound like Eminem if he made white-kid reggae. We also like ‘em cause we like Sublime & Sublime’s new singer Rome, and he did that one track with them that’s like the only good song they play on the radio. Ever. So we’re pretty stoked to be one of the only sites offering a stream of the complete special edition release of the band’s debut, Any Port In A Storm. Dig the tunes below and keep scrolling for a video and upcoming tour dates. DIRTY HEADS SPRING 2010 Check out more Stream The Dirty Heads “Any Port in a Storm” Out Today…
The Dirty Heads have emerged onto the music scene with their unique signature blend of acoustic infused hip-hop and classic reggae, creating the perfect soundtrack for an upbeat summer. The band’s breakthrough single, “Lay Me Down” featuring Rome of Sublime With Rome, has become a top 10 single in a number of major markets across the country and has drawn comparisons to known musicians 311, Jason Mraz and Jack Johnson. We at the weapon definitely dig Warpaint, and we’re also pretty stoked to hear that we’re gonna get to see ‘em with Yeasayer next month.
