Posted on September 24, 2009 | No CommentsEven though I'd say the readers of this blog are probably not interested in Shakira, the REMIX FAIL post got shit tons of traffic so some of you MUST be interested. Shakira stopped by Soundcheck a couple weeks ago and performed 3 tracks from her new release, "She-Wolf." The exclusive interviews and performance videos will be live on the soundcheck website on September 28th. Until then, here's some other stuff:

Thursday 10.08.09: MR. GREEN ALL STARS (HR – Bad Brains, ROCKY GEORGE – Suicidal Tendencies, NORWOOD FISHER – Fishbone, THE SCIENTIST) @ echoplex
Posted on September 10, 2009 | 5 CommentsThis is a fucking super group if I've ever heard of one. The band consists of HR from Bad Brains, Norwood Fisher of Fishbone on bass, Rocky George of Suicidal Tendencies on guitar, and DH Peligro of Dead Kennedys on drums. I'm serious. I know. You HAVE to see this. Mr. Green All Stars will launch a world tour this fall - it starts in at the Echoplex. Officially, Mr. Green's All-Stars describe themselves as "misfits of the world who believe in freedom of expression—no matter what the cost.” Check out the video below and listen to some of the tunes on their myspace before you judge. It's pretty freaking good, dude.

The Raveonettes – Chelsea Sessions Clip and Last Dance MP3
Posted on September 10, 2009 | No CommentsEarly last week, The Raveonettes unveiled an ode to overdosing and/or love called “Last Dance,” the first proper single from the Danish noir-rocker’s October 6th Vice release, In And Out Of Control. I have qualms with the idea of an "ode" to overdosing - that's kinda messed up - but the song is actually really freaking good so I'm willing to overlook it's subject matter. Kind of. -
THE JAZZ BUTCHER IS PLAYING PTP FEST 2
Posted on August 28, 2009 | No CommentsThe Jazz Butcher, also known as The Jazz Butcher Conspiracy and The Jazz Butcher And His Sikkorskis From Hell, are a British musical group founded by Pat Fish. Their oeuvre is blackly humorous with such topics as Thomas Pynchon's The Crying of Lot 49, an unrequited crush on Shirley Maclaine, and an ode to SF writer Harlan Ellison. The song "Sister Death" is not about the comic book character -
The Jesus Lizard in LA – October 2009
Posted on August 27, 2009 | 1 CommentDude, The Jesus Lizard are touring again! I mean, obviously they've already played Pitchfork fest and a couple other shows but that's all the way over THERE and I'm all the way over HERE. Howcome I'm always like, the LAST to find out everything? You wanna see the reason I'm so stoked??? (Among other things) It's (mostly) cause of this right here: -
Beck’s Record Club – Sunday Morning
Posted on August 27, 2009 | 1 CommentBeck's website is pretty bitchen. Back in June he launched a section called "Record Club" that features weekly videos of Beck and his friends re-recording entire albums. The first one is The Velvet Underground & Nico. Here's what he has to say about it:

Paolo Nutini is Not a Random Hipster Kid
Posted on August 19, 2009 | 1 CommentWho the F is Paolo Nutini? I've totally never heard of this guy whose 2006 release apparently sold over 2 million copies....you go listen to it and tell me if it's as good as his June 2009 release Sunny Side Up. Which is pretty good (so far). This dude's like a male Amy Winehouse, and I can't figure out if I think that's totally -
Los Pikadientes de Caborca Do Billie Jean
Posted on August 14, 2009 | No CommentsThis band is like traditional mexican music meets punk rock. Maybe it’s the random tuba. Not sure. Whatever. This is by far the best cover of Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean I’ve ever heard. I can’t tell if I think it’s funny or if it’s good.... -
Easy Star’s Lonely Hearts Dub Band
Posted on August 6, 2009 | No CommentsI liked it better when I thought it was called Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Dub Band, but it's not. Here comes the latest reggae tribute from the group that brought you Radiodread and The Dub Side of the Moon. Released in April of this year, Easy Star's Lonely Hearts Dub Band is exactly what its title infers - a dubbed out tribute to The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper.
