8000 bam bam (Samuel Cooper) & Baby Seal (Brady Keehn) first started working together at Savannah College of Art and Design during the post production stage of Samuel’s senior thesis film, MILES. Their relationship was strictly dealing with dialogue and the mixing of original songs for the short film, in which Brady was the Post Sound Supervisor. Eventually having completed MILES, the two had worked so well together on the last project that starting a new one only made sense. Thus SUNGLASSES was born. These dudes totally remind us of one of Aunt Dracula who were one of our most favoritist Fantastic Picks from like 2009 or 2008. Definitely not the same dudes, but definitely the same level of Continue reading Band To Watch: Sunglasses – Whiplash… It isn’t so amazing to me to hear that NYU has a Riot Grrl collection since I went to UCLA and took classes like “New York City Punk 1975-1980″ (the textbook was Please Kill Me) and “The History of Electronic Dance Music” (among others), but I was glad to hear about it today cause I think I may have forgotten all about Bikini Kill for a number of years. Thanks to feministe.us for the Continue reading The Kathleen Hanna Papers… We at the weapon definitely dig Warpaint, and we’re also pretty stoked to hear that we’re gonna get to see ‘em with Yeasayer next month. The rest of the country gets ‘em with Akron/Family which ain’t too shabby, either. Dig some tunes and videos Continue reading Warpaint – ‘Elephants’ Video, Tour With Akron/Family… Nada Surf bring their trademark sense of harmony and musical craftsmanship to 12 of their favorite songs with their latest release, if i had a hi-fi, their first album of covers. Only a group with their wide-ranging and eclectic taste could bring songs from such artists as Kate Bush, Dwight Twilley and the Go-Betweens together into a coherent, intelligent record. hi-fi also includes some intriguingly obscure numbers like Spanish band Mecromina’s “Evolution” and Bill Fox’s power-pop Continue reading Nada Surf Tour & Album Of Cover Songs… The Stone Roses were an English alternative rock band formed in Manchester in 1984. They were one of the pioneering groups of the Madchester movement that was active during the late 1980s and early 1990s. The band’s most notable lineup consisted of vocalist Ian Brown, guitarist John Squire, bassist Gary “Mani” Mounfield, and drummer Alan “Reni” Continue reading Flashback: The Stone Roses – Standing Here… The fuck is a dope boy allstar? Ehhh urban dictionary likes to give the following definition: A Dope Boy All Star is any person who distributes illicit substances. The term is most often used to describe a young male that excels at selling to a specific geographic area or neighbourhood, and most likely moves hard drugs (ex. cocaine, crack), as well as the standard marijuana and prescription pills. A ‘Dope Boy All Star’ IS the hood Continue reading Dirty, Rotten, Scandalous: Dope Boy Allstars… Let’s be honest here: Galapaghost sounds a lot like a lot of stuff we’ve already heard. True. But you can probably name 5 bands you love the shit out of that sound a lot alike, right? Well, so can we. For starters: The Magnetic Fields, Dent May & His Magnificient Ukelele, Fleet Foxes, Fools Gold, Continue reading Galapaghost is Ukel-Indie Rock At Its Finest… I get really, really skeptical when bands who send me music to review list REALLY GOOD artists under their “Influences.” So I was immediately expecting an aural atrocity when I visited Daddy Lion’s myspace page and they had the following artists listed as major influences: Husker Du, Dinosaur Jr., Iggy Pop, Bowie, Buzzcocks, Joy Division, Leonard Cohen, Sonic Youth, T. Rex, Buddy Holly, Beatles, Pavement, and Modest Continue reading Band To Watch: Daddy Lion… You’ve all heard both of these songs already, and we probably woulda posted them ages ago had it not been for STUPID *****host breaking our FREAKING servers every other day. Thanks a lot, hosting service, for sucking ass and making us fall behind on like, everything. Ugh. Anyway, Beach House and Yeasayer are 2 of our very favorite current artists here at the weapon and they’re both gearing up for new releases in early 2010. Continue reading Old News is Good News: New Beach House & New Yeasayer in 2010… Until pretty recently I had no idea what “ABC BBD” actually meant. I’m not sure where the epiphany came from but it came just the same, so enter another (late) version of the Flashback Friday post, featuring The East Coast Family. Howcome nothing sounds like this anymore? Happy Continue reading Flashback: Boyz II Men, ABC, BBD… |
