TYSKERHAR is a two piece comprised of Seek Zag Lazer (Music) from Berlin and Ms. Mao Dou Mao (Vocals) from Beijing, I’d like to boast that I’m pretty sure I’m the first dude in America to interview them and luckily they agreed to meet back up and give me a catch up interview, it’s been a little over a year and they have upped their attack strategy on dance floors, keeping kids sweaty and drug dealers busy… thank god!
Pope: Hey, it’s been awhile since I interviewed you for Bigstereo, your sound keeps growing and expanding, what has kept you motivated?
SZL: Thanks! Well that’s quite hard to say. It’s mainly the fact that I am totally incapable of doing something else than music; but I think our motivation will stop at this point when I feel that there’s nothing more to improve and we sound like Spiritualized. Or if people stop dancing.
MDM: Or when we’re rich and fat.
Pope: What have you mainly been listening to lately? Do you dig for lost gems or stick mainly to what is currently happening?
SZL: You wouldn’t believe what strange mixture of music runs on our iPod;) On the one side we listen to the contemporary stuff, a little touched by the 80s: like Jupiter, Futurecop!, just to name two of them; then again the real 80s classics, Chaka Khan, Janet Jackson but then sometimes it has to be an hour of Napalm Death just to reset the brain again.
Pope: In what clubs can we find you in?
MDM: I like Scala in Berlin a lot.
SZL: All the hiptster places are good for hipsters like us! Nah, we don’t have ONE favorite club, maybe two… haha; no seriously – at the end the best line-up makes the difference.
Pope: Do you have any tour plans?
SZL: Well, we’re always down for tours and gigs, if anyone wants to do a tour with us – here we are! But at the moment we don’t have anything planned, fall be a bit busier for us again.
Pope: And the big question! Has anyone figured out how to sneak Mao Dou Mao into America yet???
SZL: Hmm, we thought about digging secret tunnel, but we stopped in the middle of the Atlantic, because we realized that it’ll take too long.
MDM: Well, I got used to be refused on the border or blacklisted. Hard to be Chinese sometimes! But once we will be invited to play, I’ll try it again, really, really hard.
Pope: What is your current favorite game system?
SZL: I have a PS2 and a Super NES, one day I’m gonna get myself a PS3, GTA IV and also the new Gran Turismo look fantastic on it!
MDM: Wii Wii Wii
Pope: What are your favorite games to play on the system?
SZL: I was really a skilled Tekken 3 player – Playstation 1, Brian Fury – I used to play this every single day when I was a kid! Haven’t played it for a long time now. Also Mortal Kombat 3 is the shit!
Nowadays I’m still into San Andreas on PS2 and Gran Turismo 4. I’m the biggest car nerd around, so since I moved away from my hometown where my Tekken homies lived I stick to car racing, but unlike Streetfighter II this would be lousy to sample.
MDM: I have a DS where my virtual dog lives. He is so cute!!! But Super Mario on the NES is still the best for me.
Pope: Who usually wins?
<
SZL: Me!
MDM: Me!
