Now, let me know guys – am I a little late on this one??

If you’re lucky enough to be in Seattle this weekend, you probably already know that you’re in for a treat. This Friday and Saturday brings what looks like the Northwestern equivalent to the Sunset Junction, but with a cooler name: The Capitol Hill Block Party. Truthfully, I didn’t know anything about this until about 20 minutes ago when I finally decided to stop laying awake in bed and write something about the song I heard on Subterranean earlier this week. See, I find myself awake at 4am pretty often (which, if you’ve been reading the weapon for longer than a month or so, my posting habits would blatantly declare…). Anyway, on this particular occasion, when I found myself awake at 4am on Tuesday (or Wednesday?) night, I found something worthy of imparting to the 40 or 50 of you who seem to be paying attention. So listen up:
THROW ME THE STATUE – and that isn’t a command. It’s the name of a Seattle based band who cleverly claim on their myspace profile that their tunes fall within the genre of “Concret/Jungle”- ha, ha. Good one. Truth be told, they are pretty terrific. Scott Reitherman, Aaron Goldman, Jarred Grimes, and Charlie Smith make music that’ll probably make you swoon so completely that you might actually believe you’re floating for a second. Dude that was gay. Whatever.
The song “Lolita” reminds me of the Burberry cologne that my friend wears – wave it under my nose and then ask me to sign away my first born, or to wash your car or buy you dinner and I will probably say yes. So um, guys, don’t take your girlfriends to the Block Party on Sat July 26th at 7:45 pm or you might end up sleeping alone that night.
FREE SHIT:
Throw Me The Statue – Lolita (MP3)
Throw Me The Statue – About To Walk (MP3)
They did a daytrotter sesh a few months back, which included a live acoustic rendition of “Lolita” plus two others. Here’s one: Throw Me The Statue Daytrotter Session – Lolita (MP3) Download the the rest of the Throw Me The Statue Daytrotter recordings at daytrotter.com.
They’ve done a takeaway show, too. Watch one of those videos here, and watch/download/read the rest on la blogotheque.
In a little less than all seriousness: this music makes my heart leak out my ears. Buy the LP ‘Moonbeams’ and other TMTS merch from Secretly Canadian (who have a freaking heart-wrenching artist roster, might i add. i bet you won’t get out of their online store with only one record).
**If you’re going to this shindig in Seattle, please remember to come back and tell me if these guys are really that good, or if all this rambling a byproduct of some wreckless sleep deprivation.
