Thank God For Alicia Keys

I’m pretty into Soul and R&B, like, the popular kind – not just the old stuff. I dig it so much that sometimes my friends don’t even get it so I’ve stopped mentioning it. I guess you could say it’s a guilty pleasure of mine, like how c4 really likes NOFX and would probably pick Punk In Drublic if she could only listen to one record for the rest of her life. But truthfully, I really don’t feel very guilty about it at all. What’s it to anybody else if I like pop, right? Enter Alicia Keys. She just put out a slew of new singles that I’m vibing on pretty hard right now (see below).

The first time I heard ‘Empire State of Mind Part II’ I was sitting at a bar in Costa Rica ordering a margarita from the hottest bartender I’ve ever seen in my life, and she started singing it to me. I shit you not! Aahhh…..pura vida! Uh…. so back to reality… Last weekend I was in Chicago with a few hours to kill so I took a long walk down Milwaukee Ave. and was flipping through radio stations on my walkman when I heard her latest single, ‘Un-Thinkable (I’m Ready).’ It’s utterly fantastic, and I couldn’t help but thank God for Alicia Keys.
