Palms and Animal Collective Trip Me Out

Me, face down, on an acid trip, in the middle of a church, in a field, in rural England, at night. That’s the best way I can describe the Josh Dibbs’ (of Animal Collective) remix of Palms‘ “Boundary Waters.” I’m a fan of AC, and Dibbs’ imprint clearly shows on this; swirling synth washes, chopped vocals, distorted drum hits, and an all around ethereal vibe. Droneaholics will find a lot to like about this song, as it lumbers along at a steady, almost plodding pace. That’s not to say the track is boring; it certainly paints a vivid, detailed atmosphere, it’s just hard to tell what it is sometimes.

Anyway: it’s definitely worth a listen, if not multiple, to figure out exactly what’s going on here. The whole “Boundary Waters Remixed” EP comes out 8/25/09 and features remixes from Matt Tong (Bloc Party), Gavin Russom (of DFA fame) and Bradford Cox (Deerhunter/Atlas Sound), as well as this AC remix.

In the meantime, sate the hipster in you by peeping some of these videos from Palms’ full-length, It’s Midnight in Honolulu:
