Monsters of Folk Make Me Remember Why I Loved Fevers and Mirrors
Posted on September 12, 2009 | 1 CommentIn the spirit of super groups (see previous post), the weapon brings you Monsters of Folk. The name would be fitting if the band consisted of Will Oldham, Jeff Mangum, and Samuel Beam, but it doesn't. Members Conor Oberst, M. Ward, Jim James, and Mike Mogis are Monsters of Folk - and I'll be honest - they make me remember why I LOVED THE CRAP out of Fevers and Mirrors so hard (yes, I just said I loved something "so hard"....) when I was 16. The reason: BECAUSE ITS REALLY FREAKING GOOD. -
Thursday 10.08.09: MR. GREEN ALL STARS (HR – Bad Brains, ROCKY GEORGE – Suicidal Tendencies, NORWOOD FISHER – Fishbone, THE SCIENTIST) @ echoplex
Posted on September 10, 2009 | 5 CommentsThis is a fucking super group if I've ever heard of one. The band consists of HR from Bad Brains, Norwood Fisher of Fishbone on bass, Rocky George of Suicidal Tendencies on guitar, and DH Peligro of Dead Kennedys on drums. I'm serious. I know. You HAVE to see this. Mr. Green All Stars will launch a world tour this fall - it starts in at the Echoplex. Officially, Mr. Green's All-Stars describe themselves as "misfits of the world who believe in freedom of expression—no matter what the cost.” Check out the video below and listen to some of the tunes on their myspace before you judge. It's pretty freaking good, dude.

REMIX FAIL: Calvin Harris’ She Wolf Remix
Posted on August 30, 2009 | 7 CommentsWhat's with all the good reviews of this track, man? Dude, it totally sucks. It's like Calvin Harris extracted everything that's wrong with techno and everything that's wrong with pop and stuck it in a meat grinder. Seriously, everyone keeps saying that his last album was kind of a disappointment and they're trying to tell us that this is a little redeeming but dude - CAN THESE PEOPLE HEAR? I mean, seriously, 693 people have LOVED this track at the Hype Machine. My god. Get some hearing aids, people:

Posted on August 29, 2009 | No CommentsI coulda sworn that my old roommate mentioned this years ago - that Belding does Karaoke at all the dives in like Glendale and Burbank. I wonder if this was the plan the whole time? Either way, he fucking does JOURNEY. Anybody remember that episode of family guy where they have to save the clam and peter and quagmire and cleveland and joe start singing 'Don't Stop Believing' and then all of a sudden everybody cruises out and the bar is packed again

THE JAZZ BUTCHER IS PLAYING PTP FEST 2
Posted on August 28, 2009 | No CommentsThe Jazz Butcher, also known as The Jazz Butcher Conspiracy and The Jazz Butcher And His Sikkorskis From Hell, are a British musical group founded by Pat Fish. Their oeuvre is blackly humorous with such topics as Thomas Pynchon's The Crying of Lot 49, an unrequited crush on Shirley Maclaine, and an ode to SF writer Harlan Ellison. The song "Sister Death" is not about the comic book character -

Posted on August 25, 2009 | No CommentsSo I'm not sure how I missed this, but I just heard from my guitarist yesterday that the drummer from Lit had passed away about 2 weeks ago. The band released the following statement on their MySpace: Allen Shellenberger, drummer for Orange County rock band Lit, lost his battle with brain cancer Thursday, August 13, 2009 surrounded by his loving family, the band, and close friends. He was 39 years old.
