Ian Mackaye. What to say about Ian Mackaye. THERE’S SO MUCH. Damnit. I was lucky enough to be in the car when Mackaye was guesthosting one of Henry Rollins‘ radio shows a few months ago, and jesus, dude, I still can’t get over how cool BOTH of those dudes are. What’s with DC, man? It spawns shit and it spawns awesome. Anyway, whatever, on the show he told this story about how Minor Threat was playing a show in Camden, NJ at this place called The Buff Hall and he got totally brutalized by a car beforehand. We’re talking like, in the fucking parking lot. Some dude smashed into him going like 45 mph and he was later told that he did some crazy flip off the side of another car and landed like 20 feet away from the point of impact. Lost his shoe or something. After a trip to the hospital HE ACTUALLY CAME BACK TO PLAY THE SHOW. End of story. If you look closely enough I *think* you can kinda see it in this video:

A key figure in the development of hardcore punk and a strong supporter of the independent movement. Mr. DIY himself, Ian Mackaye (Minor Threat, Fugazi, The Evens, Dischord Records) will be doing a very special public Question and Answer Speaking Engagement on Tuesday, Oct 21st (7:30 pm) at UC Irvine’s Humanities Hall 178. There is a $5 fee for non-students.

If you live in so cal you can go hang out with Ian like 5 times next week – not just at UCI. I’d like to be able to boast that I’ll be at all 5 Q&A sessions, but the fact is that I’m not that lucky and even if I’m not working I probably won’t even make it to one of them. Sad face. But hey, go for me. And take some photos while you’re at it! We’ll post them :)
