Flashback Friday: Dion - Drip Drop

Dion and the Belmonts

So I think I’ve decided to do a new feature here at Fantastic Weapon. In addition to the (usually) weekly edition of the Sunday Morning Mixtape, I’m gonna do a Flashback Friday that’ll either include a video, mp3, or both of something old. Let’s define old, in terms of music: before 1980. Mostly before 1970, but before 1980 is gonna have to work, otherwise I’ll probably start breaking rules left and right. The first post in FantasticWeapon.com’s Flashback Friday feature is something different from a very popular 1960’s doo-wop artist. I found this track a few months ago when I was looking for some sweet live footage of Jerry Lee Lewis banging on the piano – that guy goes nuts!

The song: Drip Drop. The artist: a one Dion Francis DiMucci, Mr. Heart Throb USA, whom you may know from Dion and the Belmonts. Drip Drop is a pretty stellar song because it’s a bit of a departure from his normal sound – kinda bluesy, if you ask me. The song popped into existence in 1963 and it doesn’t feel trite or staged like much of the music that came from that era – like, maybe he actually WROTE it and REALLY FELT this way rather than consented to sing along with someone elses tune.

You know – bluesy.
Dig what I’m sayin? Without further ado…
