Ancestors: SXSW or Bust?

I didn’t go to SXSW, and to be quite honest I didn’t pay much attention to what was going on down there, either. One morning I did listen to the radio and heard something about the emergency room being really packed, and like, Deadly Syndrome or some other band bumping into their booking agent there?? Whatever. This I know for certain: Ancestors had a wild ride/walk/hitch-hike. Epic journey, to be frank.

Ancestors are a five-piece psychedelic doom-metal band hailing from Los Angeles. A few days ago they hit the road with Tweakbird, bound for Austin, TX to play a couple gigs at SXSW. They also hit a deer, and apparently it was a big deer–big enough to wreck their van and leave them stranded. At 4am PST on March 12th, they sent out an SOS via myspace bulletin, as follows:

Hello,

We hit a large buck/deer on the freeway, Exit 400 on I-10. It’s in Sonora.

We finally got our van and trailer towed to Austin with Tweakbird in it. Five of us are left stranded. We just found a motel with the internet. If you know of anyone travelling through to Austin for SXSW, or who lives nearby where we are — 190 miles West of Austin on the 10 — fucking call us! We’ll be on the road trying to hitch rides in the meanwhile.

Thanks to whomever posted/re-posted and tried to help the guys out. The five of them ended up hitch-hiking and made it to Austin hours later. As for rides home–I think some of them are still stranded? Hit them up on myspace if you can help ‘em out. And go buy their debut album, Neptune With Fire, so they can buy a new van. It is to be released 3/25/08 on North Atlantic Sound & will be available in record stores worldwide, on CD and Gatefold Vinyl, as well as iTunes, Rhapsody etc etc etc.

   they made it home and rocked it with Saviours and Early Man at the key club. Even though their sound was doo doo. No fault of theirs.
