Pork Rinds, Whiskey, and Leadbelly Covers

So in Illinois I was living at this house where there were shows once or twice a month, that everyone called The Day Old Basement. Whether or not there was a good band on the bill was kind of hit or miss, and the last thing I expected of a bluegrass trio from Moline, IL was for them to totally rule. They call themselves The Purtneers had a very reserved demeanor (until they got on stage), and their myspace page boasts an extremely modest description of how awesome they really are:

“Fueled by many childhood weekends spent at Bluegrass Festivals throughout the 1980’s, the younger members of The Purt’neers have teamed up with the previous generation to form a band that plays the only music they can agree on. If you are looking for some marginal entertainment for a function, The Purt’neers would love to spend an evening with you.”

More accurately: if you can describe “marginal entertainment” as 3 well-dressed men playing Leadbelly covers while whiskey pork rinds circulate throughout the audience, then shit son, I dig me some marginal entertainment! Or maybe I was just wasted. I wish they had better videos, but they don’t so you’ll just have to trust me. They were awesome. Maybe I was just wasted. I dono, you should check ‘em out for yourself.
