Paolo Nutini is Not a Random Hipster Kid

Who the F is Paolo Nutini? I’ve totally never heard of this guy whose 2006 release apparently sold over 2 million copies….you go listen to it and tell me if it’s as good as his June 2009 release Sunny Side Up. Which is pretty good (so far). This dude’s like a male Amy Winehouse, and I can’t figure out if I think that’s totally gay or really awesome. Not that it couldn’t be awesome and gay at the same time, cause it could, but you know how sometimes things are so flambuoyant that it overshadows the awesomeness? This doesn’t do that. Oh and don’t be dissuaded by his look – he may look like every other hipster musician out there but he sure as hell doesn’t sound like ‘em. Seriously. Watch the video for the first single, ‘Candy’ -

“Musically where I’m at, I don’t really have a genre or style that I feel a part of,” explains Paolo. “I skip from Djhango Reinhart to Cab Calloway to Canned Heat. Its a bit of a random mish mash. I honestly wanted it all to come out, and not harness it, not manipulate it. I just wanted it to be organic, and so immediate it’s in your face and you can’t help but take it all in.”

C’mon now. Canned Heat rules. Be friends with Paolo Nutini on MySpace, watch the video for ‘Coming Up Easy,’ where “Paolo makes friends with a giant rabbit who gets a little too drunk” – it’s kinda sweet, reminds me of Alice in Wonderland, and the song is good too which makes it totally worth the 3 or so minutes. In fact, you’ll probably watch it more than once. So do that, and then listen to some Canned Heat (see below). There, now you’ve got the rest of the night booked.
