I’m not really a fan of most hip-hop or urban soul. There, I said it. And it’s not really cause I don’t like it as much as it’s the sheer fact that a lot of it just isn’t very interesting. It sounds the same, or it’s too self-assuming, or it just doesn’t strike me, which is why I really dig this chick’s sound. CILLA K. is a vocalist, beat maker and songwriter based in New York, and she’s a fucking good one. The only thing that my [extremely limited] knowledge of this style of music brings to mind is that Common track ‘I Am Music’ off of Electric Circus. Her debut Fine Line hit shelves on April 2nd and it features such beat masters as Junius Bervine (N.E.R.D, Floetry, Common) and Mr. Khaliyl (Talib Kweli), among others. SHOCKER: We’re actually loving the whole thing and you can check it out for yourself on myspace.
I think we also like her cause this chick is educated (Sarah Lawrence College), super-hot (we’ve heard she’s a professional model), and as far as my ears are concerned she brings something to the urban music scene that is extremely scarce. We’re pretty stoked to see what’s next.
i want to smash my soul on your brain

seems similar to me
huh?
wow, OBVIOUSLY. duh. the bio she sent me used both of those words as genre descriptions.
I'm really confused by the first part of your analysis of the track, which is no where near hip hop, and not really urban soul … closer to a Santogold than a Jill Scott. Black artists DO make music outside of “urban” soul and hip hop …
sounds the same to you
