Little Bear - Army of Trees EP

So after spending the whole weekend in the hospital, I was delighted to find that I was pretty much the only person who had neglected the website. To everyone who sent me anything to review over the past couple days – I will most definitely get to it. First on the list, because it was the best of the bunch and I probably would have done a post eventually, solicited or un – Little Bear. I got this email and it said something about how if you like Andrew Bird, Iron & Wine, Akron/Family, or Sufjan Stevens, you’ll like Little Bear’s Army of Trees EP – I think those comparisons are a little off. I’d say if you ever listened to Hum or old Sigur Ros, or anything labeled “indie” before 2002 you will like the stuff you hear when you push play on the “Featured Playlist” on the Little Bear myspace page. I mean, that isn’t to say that the comparisons are off, but I think I like Hum better than all four of those artists put together so throwing down this comparison at something is kinda like a compliment.

What’s even better: Little Bear is just one dude, Nick Principe, and the one man band leaves NOTHING to be desired. He hits all the nails on the head and they go straight in. No messy thumbprints on the walls or crooked pictures. I think it’s because like, even if the style of music he plays isn’t your cup of tea, you can feel his feelings, even through the inevitable digital barriers. I like it. What do you think?

If you like it, you should most definitely hit up his website or myspace (see above) because he’s offering the whole EP for free in various formats. And I hope that he will keep us all posted of any shows he might be playing because if he does make his way down south I will be sure to make it out to a show.
