I really, really, really wouldn’t ever want to eat a black apple, but I really dig listenin’ to ‘em. This band is R-A-D. They describe themselves as “a new psychedelic surf rock group” but I think it sounds more like if the make up were to get into it with a gang of twacked out surf punks in an alley on skid row – but only if after the fight they ate peyote buttons in your mom’s garage. Together. While she was home. And they were still bloody. Totally. Crazy.
In addition to shows at the Echoplex, Silverlake Lounge, Viper Room & Knitting Factory, these dudes have played with The Warlocks at Spaceland and toured to Colorado for a headlining slot at the Fort Collins’ Old West Fest. Never heard of it? Me neither, but it sounds pretty bitchen and I think LA should get one.
If you dig these tracks from their first EP then make sure you get your ass down to Territory BBQ & Records on Sept. 23rd to see what kind of damage The Black Apples can do in person. Address: 534 N Hoover St, Los Angeles, California 90004 – Cost: free. Starts at 8PM. I think. Nobody ever puts the right time in myspace events, so maybe you should ask them.
