The Younger Lovers - Gravy Train Sideproject

Brontez from Gravy Train - yes, the insane dude who screams about STD’s and nervousness at shows - has a new side project called The Young Lovers. The album was released Retard Disco (Bad dudes…), and its title makes it pretty obvious - this album is mos def a return to 80’s New Romanticism, with Punk Rock tendencies. Retard Disco bills the work as a response to the vast majority of queer artists moving toward pop/electronic sounds. They explain that “[e]veryone ran for a drum machine and opted to be the next Justin Timberlake. No probs. No shade. This just left the playhouse empty.” Ok… cooooooool….what?
Punk rock is like the classic mainstream way to voice dissent; way to really shake up whats happening…. not. Whatever.
Anyway, listen to “I’m Losing My Edge”:
Rumor has it that the first music video will be released on Tuesday, August 5th (this week!), and as soon as I find it I will of course post it. Until then, watch a short clip from a recent Younger Lovers performance in SF. Apparently the drummer used a tree branch he found outside…
The whole project seems tragically desperate to scratch that romantically punk rock itch, and I’ll be honest: parts of it work, but whenever I remember what they’re actually going for and how hard they’re trying to get there, it just makes me fucking laugh. You be the judge!

this is the best record i ever heard whoever reviewed this is obviously a needle dick loser who isn’t cool enough to write for Rolling Stone so he/she has to settle for being an internet journalist. they should do the world a favor an quite skipping their anti-depressants before the write their half ass reviews. thats all.

we’re all entitled to our own opinion… thanks for the attack though… i guess i am just as much entitled to say i think brontez could be making music that is more interesting as you are entitled to say i am nothing more than an internet journalist… this is America!
